Penyebab dan Cara Menghindari Bau Mulut Anjing


Jenis hewan piaraan seperti anjing atau kucing sering mulutnya atau napasnya berbau tidak sedap. Kalau sudah begini maka kita akan segan bermain-main dengan mereka. Mulut yang berbau tersebut dapat disebabkan oleh hal-hal sebagai berikut.
  • Mungkin anjing itu menderita maag (gastritis). Yang mungkin menjadi penyebab gastritis ini ada banyak seperti parasit (cacing), bakteri, protozoa, virus distemper (virus parvo), atau asam lambung yang berlebihan.
  • Mungkin anjing tersebut sedang menderita radang gusi yang disebut gingivitis, yaitu infeksi oleh bakteri atau jamur yang menghasilkan bau tak sedap karena sel-sel mati.
  • Mungkin pada anjing tersebut terjadi kalkuli gigi (tartar) atau zat-zat organis menempel di cela gigi dan bertumpuk sehingga terjadi plak.
Agar terhindar dari hal-hal tersebut sebaiknya lakukan hal-hal sebagai berikut.
  • Beri anjing makanan yang keras. Biasanya dijual di supermarket atau pet shop.
  • Hendaknya anjing diberi mainan untuk digigit dari bahan kulit mentah yang berasal dari kerbau atau sapi, karet yang keras, ataupun tulang-tulangan dari nilon (nylon chew toys).
  • Sebaiknya gigi anjing tersebut disikat dengan sikat bekas yang diberi obat gosok gigi yang mengandung baking soda atau enzim.
