Syarat dalam Pemeliharaan Kucing


Cara pemeliharaan kucing yang benar ditetapkan oleh World Society for Protection of Animals (WSPA). Syarat ini wajib diketahui oleh para pemelihara kucing sebagai kesayangan, breeder, maupun cattery. Konsep animal welfare atau kesejahteraan hewan dari WSPA dikenal dengan nama Five Freedom. Ketentuan ini mewajibkan semua hewan yang dipelihara atau hidup bebas di alam memiliki hak-hak sebagai berikut.

Freedom from Hunger and Thirst
Setiap hewan mempunyai hak untuk terpenuhi kebutuhannyaterhadap pakan dan minum. Dua hal ini adalah kebutuhan dasar setiap makhluk hidup .

Freedom from Discomfort
Setiap hewan, terutama yang dipelihara manusia, punya hak terbebas dari rasa tidak nyaman. Misalnya kandang yang terlalu sempit, kotor, atau panas yang membuat hewan tidak nyaman.

Freedom from Pain, Injury, and Disease
Hewan pun punya hak terbebas dari rasa sakit, penyakit, dan luka. Artinya, mereka berhak mendapat pengobatan bila mengalami luka atau sakit. Vaksinasi adalah salah satu usaha untuk mencegah hewan terkena penyakit.

Freedom from Fear and Distress
Hewan juga punya hak bebas dari rasa takut dan stress. Contohnya, kucing jangan dikandangkan bersebelahan dengan hewan lain yang dapat menyebabkan mereka takut dan stress.

Freedom to Express Normal Behavior
Hewan punya sifat dan kebiasaan alami yang bersifat spesifik pada setiap individu. Pemilik hewan wajib mempelajari perilaku normal dari hewan peliharaannya sehingga dapat menciptakan lingkungan yang memadai dan kondusif.
